The Knocks and MUNA Turn Back Time with "Bodies"

Out today with a music video via Big Beat Records, the song was inspired by nostalgia for the house parties and summer vacations of the early-mid aughts.

Now entering the sixth month of the COVID-19 lockdown, it's becoming increasingly difficult to remember life before sheltering at home. A new song by electronic duo The Knocks and pop trio MUNA, titled "Bodies," may be the escape you need.

Co-written by each group, "Bodies" was inspired by "nostalgia for the early-mid aughts," according to a press statement by MUNA. Out today via Big Beat Records, "Bodies" has now come to represent hope for the joyful times to come, conjuring memories of house parties, beach days with friends, and fireworks at a music festival.

Set to the tune of The Knocks' signature upbeat, pop-centric production style, "Bodies" delivers a hypnotizing, light-hearted punch with bright synths and comforting chords. Vocals from MUNA are the cherry on top, enhancing the song's groovy, funk-driven drop to render it anthemic and euphoric.

The new track comes along with a music video filmed during quarantine featuring MUNA member Katie Gavin. She is pictured rollerblading in the middle of the street, passing empty sidewalks while donning a face mask.

"We wanted to capture a vibe that was nostalgic for carefree nights and early mornings with your friends...The song came together effortlessly," said The Knocks' JPatt in a press release.

MUNA added that the two groups were sheltered in place separately less than a week after the song was completed. "Almost instantly, it took on another meaning. It became about missing, well, everything," MUNA said. "We hope 'Bodies' reminds you of a place you hope to be one day...We look forward to being together with you all again, to dance in what will hopefully be a new dawn, in a new, better world."

Bust It Out to Deorro's Latin-Inspired "Cuando"

High energy and infectiously dance-driven, "Cuando" is out now via Ultra Records.

Since signing with Prodigy Artists in May, Deorro has been leaning into his Mexican heritage with a string of Latin-inspired dance tracks. "Cuando" with Los Dutis is the latest, out today via Ultra Records.

Dropping in hot with rapid claps, staggered drum machine beats and some serious rhythmic flavor, "Cuando" speeds into an energetic and infectious drop of blood-pumping synths inspired by traditional Latin sonics. Combined with frenetic vocal chops and blaring brass samples, the track is primed to slay the dance-floor. Fellow Mexican producers Los Dutis add a youthful intensity to the track, helping it chug along without losing any steam.

"Cuando" is Deorro's second Latin-crossover track of the year following May's "Amanecer." After singing with Prodigy, the organization confirmed that this sound will be Deorro's main focus for the indefinite future. Though it slightly deviates from the electro house sonics he built his name on, such as 2014's smash "Five Hours," releases like "Cuando" promise the energy will never stop—Deorro's just getting started.

Adventure Club Joins Forces With Squired and Dia Frampton for "High Like This"

The melodic bass track released today via Ultra Records.

Ever since the 2016 release of Adventure Club's debut album, Red // Blue, fans have been eagerly awaiting a second full length project. Those wishes are to come true this year, as "High Like This" with Squired and Dia Frampton marks the third official release of the duo's sophomore album.

Following this year's "Back to You" (with Sara Diamond) and "Rebellious" (with Yuna), "High Like This" is the hard-hitting melodic bass anthem we've been waiting for, out today via Ultra Records. It kicks off lightly with vinyl crackles and quiet, reverberating synths before diving into Frampton's bright vocal tone and lyrics, which detail the thrills of independence and lighthearted love. These feelings are made audible in the song's dramatic drop of layered drum machines and bass downbeats, with pounding chords and soaring synths adding energy.

The addition of "High Like This" to Adventure Club's existing album tracklist promises a sampling of the best, most beloved sounds from the duo. The pair has also teased a track with Sullivan King on Twitter, adding the potential for a punk-driven rager to make the cut. Though this collaboration hasn't been confirmed to be on the album, it means Adventure Club has been spending plenty of time in the studio going as hard as ever, promising big things for their bass-loving fans.

Kendoll Joins Mentor AC Slater for New Single "Fall Back"

Featuring Australian powerhouse Sophiegrophy, the track was released July 24 via Night Bass Records.

Rising bass house star Kendoll is steadily building a reputation for her UK-inspired underground groove and dark, bass-driven garage style. She's now joined forces with likeminded artist AC Slater for "Fall Back" featuring Sophiegrophy, released on July 24th via Slater's Night Bass Records. It is the titular track for a three-song EP that also includes "Wasted Again" and "Never Sleep" featuring Dread MC

"Fall Back" stands out with its inventive, drum machine-driven groove, drawing comparisons to Australian powerhouse Anna Lunoe. Australian artist Sophiegrophy emerges as the star of the track, packing a heavy punch of girl power with her melodic hooks and flows and tone reminiscent of Little Simz.

The Fall Back EP follows "Repetition" and "Power," two solo tracks released earlier this year. With releases going back only as recently as 2017, Kendoll has already worked with a number high-profile labels, including Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records and Dr. Fresch's Prescription Records, launching the young artist's career to a promising start.

You Can Buy These Items from the Fyre Festival Merchandise Collection Seized by Billy McFarland

The bidding has begun.

Thanks to the mythical implosion of the dumpster fire that was Fyre Festival, you can now get your hands on a memento from the notorious event.

The US Marshals Service is auctioning off merchandise seized from the festival's disgraced founder, Billy McFarland, to augment efforts to offer restitution to his victims. From July 30th through August 13th, you can bid on 126 items, including loungewear, bracelets, and retrospectively humiliating tokens emblazoned with the phrase, "a conspiracy to change the entertainment world."

According to US Marshal Ralph Sozio, McFarland was planning to sell the merchandise even after his arrest following the festival's historic descent into ignominy. "The proceeds from the sale of these items, all traceable to McFarland's $26 million fraud, will go toward the victims of his crimes," said Sozio in a press statement.

ZABO Rises Up with New Single "Phoenix" Featuring TINYKVT

Let ZABO lift you out of the ashes.

ZABO is here to lift us all out of the ashes with his latest single "Phoenix" featuring vocals by TINYKVT. The song is reportedly the first of several tracks fans can expect to receive this year from the Toronto native. If you've recently gone through a breakup, let this emotive tune play on repeat until you're back on your feet.

TINYKVT shared the powerful meaning behind the lyrics in a press release, stating, "Phoenix is an anthem for anyone who ever felt heartbroken, lost, or defeated. It’s about taking back your power, loving yourself & rising against the odds."

"Phoenix" showcases ZABO's skilled hand at creating glitched-out future bass ballads. Those who have gone through heartbreak realize that the journey to peace should be approached gently yet fiercely. He channels this energy in the production, slowly guiding the listeners into the massive kicks and drops that follow.

Jeff Bezos to Congressman Who Asked Why Twitch Doesn't License Music: "I Don't Know"

Twitch, which is owned by Amazon, has been issuing DMCA takedown notices in lieu of licensing music.

In the absence of live music, the streaming landscape has emerged as the most popular and efficient means of connecting with fans during the COVID-19 epoch. Perhaps no platform has benefitted more than Twitch, a gaming platform that has mutated into the most prevalent live music streaming medium in recent weeks—especially in electronic dance music. Since Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos acquired Twitch for a staggering $970 million back in 2014, the platform had experienced meteoric growth before exploding due to the pandemic's recent gasoline pour.

However, Twitch has found itself in hot water in recent weeks after issuing DMCA takedown notice to a legion of its users. Since the Amazon-owned company doesn’t pay royalties to artists when their music is played on the platform, the solution is, of course, to obtain licenses.

Yesterday, July 29th, Bezos appeared before the House Judiciary Committee in a historic antitrust hearing along with the CEOs of Facebook (Mark Zuckerberg), Apple (Tim Cook), and Google (Sundar Pichai) to respond to inquiries from Congress about their data collection practices and purported efforts to subdue competitors. When Kelly Armstrong (ND-R) grilled the Amazon founder about Twitch's rampant music streaming issues, Bezos was unable to sufficiently answer the question.

Armstrong asked Bezos, "My understanding is that Twitch allows users to stream music but does not license the music. Is that correct?" "I’m going to have to ask that I could get back to your office with an answer to that question," Bezos responded. "I don’t know."

Congressman Armstrong continued his line of questioning, asking Bezos, "If Twitch is responding to DMCA notice and takedown requirements, should…Twitch consider proactive licensing music instead of retroactively adhering to those notices?"

"Yes, Congressman, that’s an important issue and we understand it," Bezos replied. "And I will get back to your office on that."

The head-scratching aspect of Bezos' comments lies in Twitch’s karaoke app, Twitch Sings, which holds music licenses with 180 publishers all over the world. That app’s license, however, is apparently not applicable to its parent platform.

At the time of writing, Twitch has not made a public statement regarding the Congressional hearing.

Vodka Milk Drop Debut Album "Heartbreak Fever"

The drink of the future.

There's nothing quite as wholesome as two best friends, together since middle school, joining forces to pursue their dreams. Such is the case for the duo Vodka Milk, who has dropped their debut album Heartbreak Fever. Comprised of Justin Albano and Eddy Fasone, they combine to make the perfect blend of sweet and fun, delivering nine tracks that span the EDM sub-genre landscape.

The beauty of the Heartbreak Fever is that everyone can check in and hear something that works for them. While their music is best described as future bass and pop, they throw down a reggaeton-inspired track with "Bombay" featuring Remy Lazarus and a REZZ-influenced standout with "Sleeping With The Devil." Two of their most dynamic songs come in the form of "Come Closer" and "Overdrive," each highlighting Fasone's passionate vocals and catchy country twang.

The road to the Heartbreak Fever did not come without challenges. According to the duo, Heartbreak Fever was made during the quarantine in a mice-infested apartment in Atlanta. "We literally sat in separate rooms on zoom meetings," Vodka Milk said. "No recording studios were able to use, so we made our own. We saved up money from our jobs to put this thing out and promote it to the best of our ability." Through struggle came glory and nine tracks that should make these two lifelong friends proud.

KARRA Shines Light on Importance of Vocalists in EDM Following Toxic Livestream Comments

Many in the EDM community have come to Karra's defense following disrespectful comments from viewers during a streamed performance.

As one of the most prolific vocalists in the electronic dance music scene, Karra's contributions to the culture at large are innumerable. With an expansive discography of solo hits and major collaborations, including those with KSHMR, NERVO, Sam Feldt, Jason Ross, and Ghastly, among many others, Karra's powerful voice is a ubiquitous force in the music production world, streaming landscape, and live music arena.

Following a recent livestreamed performance on Insomniac TV called "Infinite Skies," Karra took to Twitter to bemoan a litany of toxic, disrespectful comments about her. Addressing the vitriol in a series of tweets, she illuminated just how vital she is to the modern EDM zeitgeist. "Last night the EDM community really showed me how much they seem to hate vocalists during my performance on Insomniac TV," she wrote. "95% of the comments made to me were about how much I sucked and can’t sing for shit. Imagine if I wasnt involved in all the music/sample packs I’ve created?"

"My own writing & vocals appeared throughout the sets prior to mine, just like they are in everyone’s set, but there’s such a huge disconnect still," she continued. "No one knows that or understands the impact many vocalists/songwriters have on their favorite songs. It’s sad honestly."

The contributions of Karra and all her fellow vocalists to EDM cannot be understated. Writing lyrics, crafting melodies, and executing top-lines are a labor of love, and one that takes an immense amount of talent and determination. You can read Karra's tweets and listen to her distinguished discography below.

MTV Adds "Best Quarantine Performance" Category to VMA's, DJ D-Nice Nominated for #DanceTogether

DJ D-Nice's March 2020 Instagram Live stream was a harbinger for the livestream age in the wake of COVID-19.

Back in March 2020, when COVID-19 was roaring its ugliest head, DJ D-Nice hosted his "Homeschool at Club Quarantine" show on Instagram Live. Offering a serendipitous glimmer of positivity by funneling an at-home dance party to living rooms all over the globe, the New York City-based DJ and hip-hop artist performed for 9 hours straight on March 21st.

The unprecedented livestream attracted a staggering 100,000 viewers, including Rihanna, Lenny Kravitz, Janet Jackson, Michelle Obama, and Mark Zuckerberg, among many others. The show ultimately became a prescient harbinger for the lockdown age, signaling the start of an inescapable and increasingly robust live music streaming landscape.

Ahead of its iconic Video Music Awards show, MTV has announced two new categories designed to reward the artists who used their time in quarantine to connect with their fans virtually. In addition to the usual suspects, including "Video of the Year," "Artist of the Year," and "Song of the Year," MTV added "Best Music Video from Home" and "Best Quarantine Performance." Thanks to his "Club MTV presents #DanceTogether" performance, DJ D-Nice was nominated for the latter award.

Also nominated for the "Best Quarantine Performance" award are Chloe & Halle ("'Do It' from MTV’s Prom-athon"), CNCO ("Unplugged At Home"), John Legend ("#togetherathome Concert Series"), Lady Gaga ("'Smile' from One World: Together At Home"), and Post Malone ("Nirvana Tribute").

To no surprise, Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga led the field in nominations with nine each while Billie Eilish and The Weeknd each received six nods. The 2020 VMA's will air live on August 30th at 8PM ET (5PM PDT).

Arts Council England Confirms Dance Music Events are Eligible for £1.57 Billion Relief Package

The news represents a major win for the "#LetUsDance" campaign.

In a major win for a dance music culture throttled by the impact of COVID-19, Arts Council England has confirmed that the country's nightlife sector will be eligible to receive financial support from the government's unprecedented £1.57 billion rescue package.

According to a report by the Evening Standard, the initial announcement of the package made an ambiguous mention of "live music venues," which drew the ire of the region's clubbing sector. The announcement led to the formulation of the Fatboy Slim-backed "#LetUsDance" initiative, which pressured the UK Government to acknowledge the electronic dance music scene as an explicit beneficiary of the relief package.

After many of dance music's corps d'elite sent formal letters to Members of Parliament, including Pete Tong, Charlotte de Witte, and Andy C, Arts Council England went on to confirm the nightlife sector's inclusion in its Culture Recovery Fund, which will range from £50,000 to £3 million. According to the Evening Standard report, the fund will be available to venues that "create, present or support" the genre of "electronic music (including house, electronica, drum and bass, dubstep and experimental)."

"This is a positive step forward, but we must maintain pressure on government to gain clarity on the roadmap for businesses that are still unable to open, and fight for further support to ensure their survive this crisis," said the ironically-named Michael Kill, CEO of the Night Time Industries Association. Greg Marshall, General Manager of the Association for Electronic Music, added that the news "showed the significance of electronic music events in so many people’s lives."

Gryffin and John Martin Join Forces for Dream Collaboration, "Cry"

Break out the tissues.

Just a few days after announcing his "first record of the next chapter," renowned future bass and dance pop producer Gryffin has dropped the curtain, unveiling his new single "Cry" with John Martin.

On July 28th, 2020, Gryffin tweeted that he started work on the track "with the intention of making a timeless dance record." There is perhaps no collaborator more suitable for such an ambition than Martin, the iconic voice beyond a bevy of the most inescapable songs in electronic dance music, like Swedish House Mafia's "Save The World" and "Don't You Worry Child."

"Cry" is a scintillating future pop record that tugs at the heartstrings through Martin's poignant vocal effort. If Gryffin's sentiments about his next chapter are to truly signal a change, the single could serve as a harbinger for a slew of forthcoming hits.

You can stream or download "Cry" here and check it out below.

Tiësto to Elon Musk: "Shall We Put a Drive-In Party Together for Everyone Who Drives a Tesla?"

Tiësto is not doubting Elon Musk's vibe.

Earlier in the month of July, eccentric tech billionaire Elon Musk unveiled 3D renderings of his new Giga Factory in Berlin, Germany. Musk, who has also dipped his toes in electronic music production via a house track called "Don't Doubt Ur Vibe," wrote at the time that the rooftop may double as a "rave space," adding, "Might be an indoor/outdoor rave space on the roof," in a tweet.

After another typically incendiary tweet from the Tesla boss today, June 30th, in which he wrote that he "sure could use a good rave," legendary DJ and producer Tiësto jumped in with his own solution. "Shall we put a drive-in party together for everyone who drives a Tesla ?" he posed.

Considering the horsepower and means behind these ostensibly far-fetched ideas, the possibility of a Tesla-only drive-in rave is not out of the question. You can check out the tweets below.

Listen to Italian Producer Tava's Rework of Exchpoptrue's "Discoteca"

Out June 5th via Be Yourself Catalogue B.V, the single was followed up July 17th with a remix EP.

Rising Italian producer Tava is making waves this summer with an updated take on Exchopoptrue's "Discoteca," originally released in 2001. Created in collaboration with Gosts and Stefano Pain, the track was released via Be Yourself Catalogue B.V. on June 5th, followed up on July 17th with remixes from Anderblast and Alliance

Already making its rounds on Italian airwaves, including in a radio stream from preeminent producer Hardwell, "Discoteca" is infectiously melodic and upbeat, with an electro house drop full of weaving synths and chopped up vocals. With its increased BPM and modernized sonics, it's primed to circulate the dance floors once clubs are able to reopen from lockdown.

With "Discoteca," Tava continues to firmly establish himself within the electro and tech house scenes, building off the past success of 2018's "Pump It Up" with Nari, Stefano Pain and Luciana, and of high-profile features on Italian duo Nari & Milani's singles, "I Am Alright" and "Twilight."

"We have given an identity to this old hit," Tava told EDM.com of "Discoteca." "I am still perfecting my sound, and I am working on several new tracks that I can't wait to make you hear."

Feed Me Debuts New Drum & Bass EP "Anachronic" Under Spor Alias

Feed Me's original alias is back with a brand new drum & bass offering.

Feed Me diehards plead for new music from the mastermind's original alias, Spor, more than YouTube commenters recommend that drum & bass tracks be featured in the latest Need For Speed game. Well, the day of new Spor music has finally dawned, to the delight of all.

View the original article to see embedded media.

The Anachronic EP is the first offering from Feed Me's Spor alias since 2018's "Pull The Sun Down." Fans will be elated to hear the new six-track release, which spans many different drum & bass subgenres in classic Spor fashion.

Spor's signature, glitched-out, and detailed sound is omnipresent throughout the entirety of Anachronic, with punchy and relentless drums and gritty reese bass lining every track featured. Heavier selections include the record's titular track, the high-energy "Beam Cannon," and "Cohesion," which boasts the complexity and intricacy of some of neurofunk's finest releases to date.

More low-key and atmospheric flavors take center stage on the EP opener "In Rixa" and the rhythmic "Your Mind Is Like This Water," taking the listener deeper with eerie soundscapes and earning themselves the esteemed "roller" status. Closing track "Count My Blessings" is a more upfront and dance-floor oriented track, not unlike some of Pendulum's noted vocal works, and features vocals from Spor himself, who delivers an emotive and powerful performance.

An all-around treat for fans of drum & bass, the Spor faithful, and Feed Me fans alike, Anachronic is an exploration of the prolific producer's unique and unmistakable penchant for delivering some of the most forward-thinking and well-executed ideas in the world of electronic music.

Though the question of, "When are we getting more Spor music?" will always remain, Anachronic should tide eager Spor fans over just fine until he decides to stun his listeners once again.

Lastlings Get the RÜFÜS DU SOL Remix Treatment on "No Time"

The Grammy Award-nominated Australian trio have delivered only their third official remix.

Australian electronic pop musicians and siblings Lastlings made waves in 2018 with their signing to the Rose Avenue imprint, headed by Australian superstar trio RÜFÜS DU SOL. RÜFÜS had the pair along for their "SOLACE World Tour" last year and have now given Lastlings the remix treatment.

"No Time (RÜFÜS DU SOL Remix)" is a dreamy house offering from the powerhouse electronica group. The original track was already a deep, progressive earworm, and RÜFÜS capitalize on that sound by kicking things up with both the tempo and composition. While the original has a deep and danceable yet chilled-out feel to it, the remix explores those euphoric and sporadic synths even further with a drawn out, atmospheric breakdown and buildup.

The payoff is pure bliss. The groove remains at the drop with intense, nearly cinematic tones that play wonderfully off of vocalist Amy Dowdle's airy verses. Emotive and goosebump-inducing pads and brassy notes round the track out in perfect fashion. Taking nothing away from the original, RÜFÜS DU SOL deliver a complimentary and expansive remix of an already stunning track.

"The remix is an amazing journey and we absolutely love it," Lastlings said. "Eagerly waiting for the moment we’re back together moving to it on a packed dance floor.”

Carl Cox Drops Remix of Kenneth Bager and Jez Phunk's "Farmacia (Homage To Frankfurt)"

The iconic DJ's latest offering is a techno spin on Bager and Phunk's house staple.

When Kenneth Bager and Jez Phunk released "Farmacia (Homage To Frankfurt)" back in 2019, the track instantly became a staple within the world of tech house. It has now caught the attention of legendary techno producer and DJ Carl Cox, who released an official remix of the track today, July 30th.

Cox's take on "Farmacia" dials up the tempo of the original, moving it deeper into the techno realm with a rolling bassline and rhythmic, driving toms and percussion. The atmosphere remains, as does the instantly recognizable, entrancing synth work. Cox's remix of "Farmacia" is certainly more club-oriented than the original, but respectfully compliments it and retains its signature elements.

"I wanted to turn it into something classic and Techno-ish, but I also wanted it to be the most beautiful thing I could construct out of something that was already beautiful," said Cox. "All I could do was paint a picture that I believe would compliment the original track."

Cox has achieved that goal, building beautifully on Bager and Phunk's original work and leaving his signature mark while revitalizing it for 2020 audiences. You can listen to the track in full below.

Slow Magic Enlists Manila Killa for Uplifting Single "Closer 2 U"

Slow Magic's forthcoming EP is shaping up to be one of his finest works yet.

Slow Magic's upcoming EP Closer 2 U, coming out August 19th via Moving Castle, is shaping up to be one of his finest works yet. This year, the masked producer has been sharing some of his most stellar creations ever, dropping the nostalgic solo single "Home" before teaming up with Woven In Hiatus to release "Somewhere," which was co-produced by Shallou.

Slow Magic has now offered his fans another bright track from Closer 2 U, joining forces with fellow electronic producer Manila Killa for the EP's titular track. Together, Slow Magic and Manila Killa create a wonderful sonic journey that blends playful vocal chops with expert sound design, bringing forth their best respective qualities. "Closer 2 U" is a high-energy gem driven by heavenly synths and bass-heavy drops, which are separated by an epic breakdown filled with impactful drum hits and haunting melodies.

"I have been following and admiring Manila Killa's music for a long time," said Slow Magic in a press statement. "Last year, we met up in LA and clicked collaboratively. I think it is always great to be in the same room and bounce ideas off of each other when collaborating but 'Closer 2 U' ended up being the opposite of that. We just sent versions back and forth on email and made it happen."

"More than ever, it's important to remember the power of connecting that we have at our fingertips online," he continued. "'Closer 2 U’ represents the difficulties of distance and the importance of connection. I want this EP to encourage and inspire people to reach out to the ones they care about in a time where we are all feeling distant.”

From Banger to Ballad: Listen to Marshmello and Halsey's Stripped Down Version of "Be Kind"

Marshmello and Halsey have reworked their collaborative hit into a brooding ballad.

Marshmello and Halsey have unveiled a melancholic stripped down version of their collaborative hit "Be Kind."

In a stark contrast to their bubbly original tune, the chart-toppers deliver a brooding effort that is markedly more ballad than banger. Since the stripped rendition is a wholly new recording as opposed to a remix, the cadence in Halsey's feathery voice differs from that of the original, but it is no less potent.

In fact, the absence of instruments allows her vox to flutter with a soft ebb and flow, illuminating her expansive vocal range. Breezy guitar plucks work in unison to serenade listeners to the final chorus, when Halsey brings the track home with her intoxicating falsettos.

You can listen to Marshmello and Halsey's stripped down rework of "Be Kind" below.

Malik B., Founding Member of The Roots, Has Died

The iconic artist has passed away at the age of 47.

Malik B., iconic founding member of The Roots, has died at the age of 47.

The renowned Philadelphia hip-hop and neo-soul group shared an official statement on social media. "We regretfully inform you of the passing of our beloved brother and long time Roots member Malik Abdul Basit," the statement reads. "May he be remembered for his devotion to Islam and innovation as one of the most gifted MCs of all time. We ask that you please respect his family in our time of mourning."

As one of its founding members, Malik B was vital to The Roots' early success, appearing on the award-winning group's first four studio albums Organix, Do You Want More?!!!??!, Illadelph Halflife, and Things Fall Apart. In 1999, he left The Roots to pursue a solo career before releasing his debut album Street Assault in 2005.

The Roots rapper Black Thought also shared a poignant tribute to the late MC on Instagram, writing that, together, they "ressurected [sic] a city from the ashes, put it on our backs and called it Illadelph."

"In friendly competition with you from day one, I always felt as if I possessed only a mere fraction of your true gift and potential," the post continues. "Your steel sharpened my steel as I watched you create cadences from the ether and set them free into the universe to become poetic law, making the English language your bitch. I always wanted to change you, to somehow sophisticate your outlook and make you see that there were far more options than the streets, only to realize that you and the streets were one... and there was no way to separate a man from his true self."

At the time of writing, a cause of death has not been made public. EDM.com expresses its sincere condolences to the family, fans, and loved ones of Malik B.

Music Marketplace Beatport Restores "Hard Techno" Genre Category

The decision to reinstate the category was made after gathering feedback from the hard techno community.

Music marketplace Beatport, which touts itself as the "world’s number one destination for electronic music," has reinstated the platform's "Hard Techno" category.

The decision to restore the category was made after gathering feedback from the hard techno community as well as prominent labels, artists, and distributors. To flesh out the genre's page on Beatport, it will be populated with music from the site's current "Techno (Raw/Deep/Hypnotic)" and "Techno (Peak Time/Driving/Hard)" categories. The latter is set to be repurposed under the name "Techno (Peak Time/Driving)." Moreover, the newly minted "Hard Techno" section now features its own dedicated Top 100 chart.

"Many labels and artists, including myself, were absolutely gutted when the Hard Techno was combined with Peak Time/Driving," said D.A.V.E. The Drummer, a prominent techno music producer and DJ, in a press statement. "The two styles of music have actually moved farther apart, with more melodic techno at one end of the spectrum and harder faster music at the other. I’m very glad to have the Hard Techno genre back. I once again feel that I am part of a scene and belong to a sound of music that is relevant to my label. Good call, Beatport."
