Despite a celebrated debut year for Wakaan Music Festival, the future of the event looks dubious.
Wakaan Music Festival's 2019 debut was warmly received by fans of more experimental bass music (including us here at EDM.com), but that may not ensure its return next year. Comments made by Wakaan boss Liquid Stranger suggest that undisclosed circumstances may prevent it from taking place after 2020.
A screen shot has made its rounds of a post that appears to have been deleted in the closed Facebook group Liquid Stranger Family. A member asked if Liquid Stranger (real name Martin Stääf) would consider moving the dates of Wakaan Music Festival on account of Lost Lands taking place a matter of days beforehand. "Might not be a next year, and then we don't have that problem at all," Stääf replied. "Let's see how this year works out first."
In a separate thread, Stääf made additional remarks about the event's future. "My team and I haven’t planned beyond Wakaan Festival 2020, but if enough people want it, we might do more," he wrote in a comment. "Just don’t get entitled or take stuff for granted. That’s not a good life philosophy."
EDM.com reached out to Stääf's spokesperson for comment but we have yet to receive a response at the time of writing.
