On This Day in Dance Music History: deadmau5 released 4x4=12

On December 6th, 2010, deadmau5 furthered his influence with his fifth studio album "4x4=12."

While deadmau5 (real name Joel Zimmerman) released arguably his biggest hit "Ghosts 'n' Stuff" in 2008, his influence was spread even further when he released his fifth studio album, 4x4=12 on December 6th, 2010.

Undoubtedly, 4x4=12 features some of Zimmerman's greatest hits. The lead single from the album "Some Chords" was instantly met with high praise and was followed up by his Wolfgang Gartner collaboration "Animal Rights" and his ever-popular single "Sofi Needs a Ladder." He went on to release "Right This Second" and "Bad Selection" as the next two singles, both of which remain fan favorites to this day. The final single of the album, "Raise Your Weapon," received the highest praise of all and was Zimmerman's first track to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

4x4=12 was met with critical acclaim upon release, putting Zimmerman in more headlines than he'd ever been in before. The legendary album prompted two Grammy nominations in 2012, including a nomination for Best Dance Recording for "Raise Your Weapon" and a nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album.

While 4x4=12 received positive praise from critics, it inspired many artists as well. "Raise Your Weapon" received a pair of refreshing remixes from Noisia and Madeon as well as numerous renditions on Soundcloud by the likes of Wax Motif, Hex Cougar, and more.

Today, Zimmerman remains a household name, as his iconic mouse head can be identified by even the most casual of music listeners. His consistent stream of hits has shown no signs of stopping since the inception of the deadmau5 project. As we look to the future of dance music, Zimmerman undoubtedly will remain one of the most influential forces.
