Tchami Speaks About His Creative Process Behind Production for Lady Gaga on "Chromatica"

The French EDM heavyweight produced the Ariana Grande collab "Rain On Me" from Gaga's new album.

It seems that French EDM superstar Tchami has no plans of slowing down. His bass house revolution has been ongoing for years now, and he's now even broken into the mainstream. After working with pop queen Lady Gaga on her 2013 release "Applause," Tchami collaborated with Gaga once again on her latest studio album, Chromatica

Tchami is credited as a producer on the Chromatica cut "Rain On Me," a collaboration with Ariana Grande. His French house-inspired take on the production has already drawn comparisons to the mighty Daft Punk, but Tchami's touch is unmistakable.

“You want to create a musical piece that fits the artist aesthetic while also representing him or her at a specific point in time," Tchami told Variety in an interview published yesterday, June 10th, 2020. "And to me, this is how the music stays authentic — even when you bring a lot of people into the room to work… otherwise, it is just a collection of producers that bring their ego along.”

"I love the fact that genres have clear boundaries — pop being a very particular one — but I cannot put myself in one box,” he continued. "I’m fully present in the moment. And I never set any boundaries when it comes to who I want to work with and what I want to create with them.”

That's exactly the mentality Tchami used with "Rain On Me." His production lets both Gaga and Grande shine in their own way while avoiding compromising his own unique and groovy flavor. Fans can look forward to that flavor on his forthcoming album, Year Zero, which is slated for release in the fall of 2020.
