Ja Rule Officially Dropped from FYRE Festival Lawsuit

Ja Rule is "Livin' It Up" after legally clearing his name

It's been over three years since the fraudulent luxury music gathering known as Fyre Festival went viral worldwide. Though years have come and gone, the lawsuits tied to the festival continue to rage on. One name that has become synonymous with the ill-fated event is Ja Rule (real name Jeffrey Atkins). The rapper was famously tied to the creation of the festival alongside founder Billy McFarland through their joint company, Fyre Media

In May of 2017 both McFarland and Atkins were hit with a $100 million class-action lawsuit for Fyre Media and their role in misleading attendees about the quality of the event. Post festival downfall, Atkins has stood his ground in both the media and in court claiming that his involvement did not constitute sales for the festival. The judge has officially sided with Atkins accused and dismissed all charges.

While a failed venture of this magnitude would deter most from trying again, Atkins has gone on to insinuate the possibility of hosting another festival. While on the Wendy Williams Show, the 43-year-old rapper defended his innocence. "Sometimes you get in bad situations and wrong partners, as we know," he said. "You gotta reset and do it right with the right people."

The ongoing legal battles continue on without Atkins. McFarland is currently serving a six-year sentence for pleading guilty to fraud. Several high-profile lawsuits have come to light this summer including a trustee who is suing multiple influencers, and talent agencies to help reclaim some of the money that was lost due to the festival. Netflix is also facing legal issues after an attendee hit the company with a copyright suit for the documentary FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened.
